EFI vs Carb.
been a while since I made any posts. haven't really been focusing on my pony because of school. Anyway, my engine needs an almost complete overhall. It's rsuty, ugly, dirty, and now dusty, lol. However, it soudns awesome when I can get the fuel to flow properly. I was looking around at parts and I thought of switching to EFI. From what I understand i get better gas mileage(which with todays prices is necessary) and more power. Dyno test from the edelbrock kit estimate over 400hp. I have to replace my carb, it is too rusty and old to keep in use, its the original one from 1974 apparently. My question is, do you think it's worth it. I'm leaning toward going with it but i'm still a newbie and a young one at that.
P.S. Edelbrock is for non-emission controlled only, how do i know if it's emission controlled? do they mean like California cars? i tought all cars were emission controlled now...

If I were buying a new carb today (I currently have a Holley 4150), I would go for a Barry Grant Demon.
I like mechanical secondaries on cars with manual transmission (I`m not concerned about gas mileage), but vacuums are just as good on an automatic, if not better.
Just remember that bigger isn`t always better. A friend of mine runs a 575 cfm Speed Demon on a 370bhp 302cid.
Check out the website Barrygrant.com for some info.

A lot of the decision goes into what you plan to put underneath the carb. If you plan to leave it stock, then there is no better performing carb than the Autolite carb that you probably have on there right now.
Barry Grant Speed Demon carbs are the best, but also look into the Holley Pro-Jection systems. There is 2 and 4 BRL stand alone closed loop throttle body systems are a lot less than the Edelbrock systems.
