Default Brake kit for a 66 with modifications

I grew up turning wrenches with my dad but i wouldn't call myself a mechanic by any means. Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosy. That's about it.

I bought a 1966 Mustang Coupe modified with a 302 and 5 speed transmission. I want to change out the manual drum brakes but i need to keep the price as low as possible. What is a kit that would work with these modifications for a reasonable price? Thanks for the help!

The CSRP kit contains the 4 piston style brakes that the Shelby cars and the 67+ cars had, it bolts on as it should and you can get repair or replacement parts at any auto parts store since you can just tell them its for a 66 Mustang with disk brakes.

The price of the CSRP kit and the customer service is second to none.

You may be able to do it a bit cheaper with some sorta hybrid parts bin approach from other cars, but then if you need parts you will need to know the "What fits what" stuff.

That's significantly less than other kits i've seen. Thanks for the link!

+1

I've got the OE-style KH kit and I love it. I went with a manual kit with the intention of adding a power booster down the road if I felt I needed it. I don't The manual brake setup works great, and if anything requires less effort for mild to moderate stopping power than the drums did.

For a little bit more you can do the cobra mustang brakes but you need 17 inch rims to clear them.

CSRP also has a SN95 kit using late model 11 in rotors and huge 2 piston aluminum PBR calipers. I just installed it and it is really nice and stops much better. I believe it works with 14 inch rims, but give Dennis at CSRP a call. It is not listed one his website yet.

I certainly like the price of the CSRP set. $500 is very reasonable. But i'm thinking about just going ahead and doing all 4 instead of just the fronts. Mustangbrakeparts.com had a set for $1,300. It's more than i wanted to spend but i haven't found much cheaper. Any suggestions?

Rear discs are pretty much a waste of time, cost-effectiveness-wise. Pretty cool for showing off at cruise night, though.

Agreed. Unless you're taking the car to the track, you'll never notice any performance difference. Looks nice, but drums work just fine on the back.
