67 Conv questions
Hello, I have a few question on my new 67 inline 6.
1) I need a valve job. The engine runs strong, so I don't want to do the bottom end, I just need to cut down on the smoke. Are there any good shops I can mail my head to and get it back done?
2) Any reccomendations on shops that rebuild and/or sell that little 1B Carb? Also, are they coded to the engine, so should I worry about keeping it matched?
3) Where can I buy a shop and body manual correct for a 67 Mustang Convertible (I would rather not buy a generic period book like a Chiltons).
Thanks ahead!

3: any of the mustang places sell reproductions of the original ford assembly manuals and repair manuals...
2: you can rebuild the carb yourself(its easy just takes a little patience) or you can use a place like Pony Carbs to rebuild it etc
1: your local machine shop can refurbish your cylinder head...are you sure you need the whole head done and not just valve seals?

Local shops should be able to do an I6 head, no problem. Make sure you spend the few ¢ extra for iron valve guides, not the cheaper bronze.
You definitely need the Factory Service Manual, here's one place you can get it:

3) Buy a FSM. It will be very helpful. I bought the CD and have it installed on my computer. I print the pages I need to take to the garage when I am ready.
Go a head and get the Chiltons as well if you can. It has some good general info. Sometimes it is easier to understand than the FSM.
2) I had Pony Carbs rebuild my carb, and it came back beautiful and runs great.
1) After replacing by valve seals (which cleared up the smoke), I realized I had a warped exhaust manifold, so I went ahead and took the head to my local NAPA machine shop, where they dipped it to check for cracks, and resurfaced it. Not too expensive, and fairly easy. I learned a lot by removing the head as well.
Then I put on a stainless dual out header and custom exhaust but that is another story...

Thanks for the replies and advice.
Right now the head is at the shop, I am just doing it all to be good.
Carb is out for a rebuild too.
The radiator was pretty plugged up, and a recore shop said they couldn't do it, so I am buying a new one, not aluminum since I want to keep an original look...
Replaced water pump and thermo as well.
Next project is to detail under the hood. Does anyone know of good sites or books that have lots of color pics of "correct" period 1967 170s.
I think the block, head, and valve cover is supposed to be blue, but what about other components, like the air cleaner?
Thanks ahead.
