Missing Neutral Safety switch

Missing Neutral Safety switch
I am attempting to re-wire my 67 6 cylinder. I am supposed to connect wires to the Neutral Safety switch which, from all I have seen is supposed to be on the driver's side of the tranny. There is nothing there. No switch, no wires, no place it even looks like the switch might go. Could it be somewhere else? Any suggestions on how to get past this situation?
Thanks,
JB

by your comments (drivers side) it appears you have an automatic, C4. This is one of those things that'll go forever and not be a problem, and then one day it'll bite you in the backside. A NSS is there to protect you, the car, from doing something inadvertant, like surging into a pole or another car. Spend the $ an put it back in the car.. The NSS is the half moon shaped devise on the side of the C4 shifter linkage, has 3-4 wires leading up the firewall.

you should have a couple wires (each made of two wire, red and black usually) extending from the driver side and it should hook up with another set of wire in the engine bay, close to the brake fluid reservoir. they have adapters on each end so they push together, rmode brings a interesting question to the mix, if it was a manual transmission car then it wouldn't have a neutral safety switch, it would have a switch that prevented starting unless the clutch is depressed.

As far as I know it was always an automatic. I have already pulled all the old wires. I am insatlling and American Auto Wire classic update kit. I have searched for a switch I see thay are about $50. The kit also is supposed to attach for the back up kights to the same switch. On the attached picture you can see where the switch is supposed to be and then on the inset a picture from under my car.

I have seen them online for around $50. Any ideas who might have it for less? Can I just attach the two ends together until the switch arrives? Also, the re-wire kit also calls for attaching the back up lights to the same switch. will this be the case with this switch?
