Question 68 200 what carb?

Hello all,

I found out that while I have a 66 Mustang, the engine is from a 68. The engine is the 3.3L 200. The only reason I know this is that I bought one of the vaporizer carbs from Pony Carbs and in their installation video they discuss checking your engine since they were apparently frequently changed. Well now I need to know what I should do. I've been told the replacement Holly carb I have on there is junk. I've seen good things and bad about the autolite carbs. If they're working it sounds do good but some have said have a short life, while others have had a lot of problems getting them to run properly. I'm wondering if I can should I go with the vaporizer autolite 1100 carb for the 68 engine or do a conversion over to the 32/36 Weber DGV. Classic Inlines has a kit for this so I'm wondering what experience others out there might have with any of these setups. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Classic inlines and Clifford performace screw you over on the price of their kit. I did the entire swap for under $200.

That would be awesome to save the money... You can't tell me that though without details

Buy the clifford 1 to 2bbl adapter, find the carb on ebay or buy from Stovebolt. Then use the jetting specs below to jet the carb how you want it. Finally just figure out how to run throttle linkage, I went with a rod setup similar to the original. You will have to buy the jets, but I can't remember where I bought them.

The electric choke is separate, but they do have it.

This can be helpful too.

My grandfather bought me an air cleaner for it so I don't know where to get it.

Depends. Does the Vaporizer have a Spark Control Valve on it? It's that part circled in red:

If it doesn't then it should be compatible with your 1968. If it does have it, then you are screwed...BUT...if it does have it, or if you choose not to use it, I would love to buy it from you!

Yep it definitely has the spark control valve. I sent a message to Pony Carbs about switching it, and if I can't or won't you'll be the first one I let know

If you bought that carb straight out from them and they didn't ask you which car it was for, then they need to exchange it. They should have asked you for which application it was intended for.

That carb was made expressly for the Load-O-Matic distributor which was only used in 1965 and 1966.

This article explains it better than I could:

That's where I have the problem. I bought this carb from a guy who never installed it on his '65 and I have a '66. Never realized there were different carbs for the different engines with the spark control valve. The installation video that comes with it mentioned making sure you have the right carb for your application. Well, I went and checked and I have a 200 from a '68 so this isn't going to work. Not sure if they'll exchange it or if they're even making these anymore. I've heard they are not, but I don't know. At any rate I didn't get it directly from them so we'll see what happens.
