Cool Motor mounts question

Getting my tired 289 rebuilt but i am thinking of changing my motor mounts , i am not building a crazy racing engine because my '68 is almost a daily driver but will definitely get some pep after a few simple mods , Which one is better for (and cheaper)to avoid vibrations? also need suggestions on the best engine bay paint out there , i would like to get a darker gray shade .any and all suggestions are appreciated,THANKS!!!

The oem motor mounts are fine a step up would be lakewood makes a factory style one that is a tiny bit stiffer up from that gets pricey and not needed unless you make a lot of power.

The stock 66-72 mounts were used in everything from the 289 2V to the BOSS 351.

An old trick is to use these same mounts, but before installing them, put a bolt through them to prevent separation. Use a shakeproof nut, and don't fully tighten it, and it won't even effect vibration.

Here's some info on stock mounts:

Ron Morris makes a great set of engine mounts for about $200.

I called his company a day before christmas in 2007 and he answered the phone, he was about to leave for vacation. I was like, is this really Ron Morris? He told me that that mailing out my mounts would be the final thing that he was going to do before leaving for vacation. I got my mounts like three days later.

They are adjustable and have good hard poly-urethane bushings.

Well, he said "cheaper" and "avoid vibrations", so I suggested what I did, which will cost him about $3. Much better than the $165 that urethane mounts cost, and no increase in vibrations, either.

hard poly is probably not the direction you want to go to avoid vibrations.

i have the ron morris mounts and there is a lot of vibration. i'm certain the mounts are the primary reason. however for my build i really have limited options.

Lakewood makes something called muscle mounts that are supposedly interlocking so they can never come apart. they look very close to stock (i had a set) and aren't really that expensive (probably a subjective statement).

Starting in 73, Mustang motor mounts were loop-through-loop, and basically indestructible. The ones I mentioned for $165 are this type. With this design, and urethane, they could stand up to twice the hp you'll ever see from your V8 engine.

I have the RMP mounts too. They are very nice pieces. Like was already said though, they may not be the best for avoiding vibrations. I can feel a little in my car, but it doesn't bother me. My car isn't stock though.
