Default 65 67 ford reproduction body ? ca ? dmv ? smog ?

just read a story about 65 ford repro bodies on yahoo.
brought up some questions and maybe you guys know how that adds up.

if you buy a ford 65/67 repro body does it come w a vin?

is it (specifically in CA) considered a new car or a say 65? smog? airbags? impact laws?

if one has a rusted out or otherwise magled 65 and gets a "new" body can you just pull the vin from one to another, legally i mean?

where does "original" start or stop, with replacing a fender or the whole body?

if you buy a convertible body and part out the coupe, whats that gonna be?

and it's made by dynacorn. the marketplace will determine what these convertibles will be worth. these new bodies have been available for mgb's for a while and while they haven't been extremely popular a "new" mgb won't be worth what a "new" 65 mustang will.

Here's the CA title rules:

You would have to contact the BAR for smog, not sure but they may go by the year of the engine.

As for swaping a VIN from a rusted junk, I'm sure the DMV would say it's illegal.
If there were no VIN stamps on the shell under the fenders that would give it away too.

If you have a frame "with serial number" wouldn't it become that car?

I don't see how. The Mustang has no frame, it's a unibody, so the only way to do it would be to stamp the old car's number in the new car's fender apron.

While stamping a repair part is legal, as in repairing a smashed fender apron, most states consider stamping a whole car a no-no. Even then, you might find a state that considers it a 'replacement body', but I'd be really thorough before spending any cash.

To some degree, many states allow cars to be built from new parts, salvage, and wrecks. Typically, though, you need to have receipts for every single scrap of the project.

if the car can't be legally registered it would kill the sales. i find it impossible that to believe that dynacorn hasn't thought of this and made arrangements. i don't know what the solution is but i am sure there is a solution. i would also want to know that solution before i bought one of those things.

Register it as a new car with a new vin? That still kills the value. I would rather buy a fiber glass body for 4k then a steel one for 15k

I guess if you are building a rest mod with a new motor you will meet smog anyway, so getting a MVIN is doable in CA.

I think dynacorn uses different methods in building parts than ford did, I would bet you can tell the difference at a glance when you open the hood, arent the dynacorn aprons are one piece?

You can legally register a Dynacorn as a kit car, the DMV rules for your state are on the Dynacorn website.

Some states will let you take a vin off a totaled wreck and use it on the shell. If you have to do it as a kit car they give you a vin and your probably gonna have to smog it.Or if you got a friend that lives some where they don't do smog lie say you live there and tag it there.
