Default Guidance for wiring

Hey guys, my 69 fastback is coming together, and instead of sinking a good deal of cash in all the wiring for the car, I have decided to wire things as I need them (lights, radio, ignition, etc.) I need a little help with the only area that I am getting stuck on: ignition.

I ordered a new cylinder, switch, and ready-to-crimp pigtail
I just need a better understanding of which ignition wire does what, and how to wire my starter solenoid, coil, and distributor. I don't need a convention explanation of how the factory did the wiring, though it would of course help.

I will be using a generic fuse block for the whole car, as well as distribution points for grounds at various spots on the car. I will be using newer style connectors too.

Thanks guys
