Default help with T5 speedo gear

CAn anyone here give me instructions on how to replace the T5 speedo gear.

I have it out to replace the flywheel and i would like to get the right gear in there as well as driven gear. I know the driven gear is easy but im not sure about the drive gear.

Thanks
B

Can't say for SURE on a T5, but on most autos you can just remove the tailshaft housing and then changing the gear is pretty straightforward. I bet a T5 is much the same.

yes assuming you are referring to the drive gear in the tail shaft housing.

1) remove trans

2) remove bolts around tail housing to case

3) remove TS housing

4) Press in retaining clip on drive gear

5) tap drive gear off spline

6) reassemble with silicone around mating surface of block and TS housing.

7) what is your rearend ratio...I suspect you'll need the black gear look for the gear chart online

I also highly recommend replacing the tail shaft busing and oil seal. However if you do so make sure to test fit the slip yoke before reinstall I suspect you'll have to use a brake cylinder hone to hone out the busing until the slip yoke install with just some effort and turns free.

I also highly recommend replacing the slip yoke with a new one this is because its probably worn where the bushing rides and the result will be a sever vibration.

i am running a 245 tire on the rear that is 24" tall and i have 3.73 gears

I think i am going to go ahead and do the yolk and the bushing. any ideas of places that may stock these parts. Maybe a ford dealer. Or am i stuck in the aftermarket.vI just really need to get the car on the road.

It was my mother in laws car from when she was in high school. She bought it in 1970 and drove it til about 1980. i got it back in 07 and re did it. she is coming in town this week for Christmas and I would like to have it available for her to drive. Minus the nitrous.

Im pretty sure you'll want the 6t black drive gear on the tailshaft and the 18 tooth driven gear on the cable...(im 90% sure of this) and (99% sure of the black gear on the tailshaft)

For the bushing Checkout Bruce at Moderndriveline
For the yoke check out NPD at npdlink.com
