Default 289 Help!

Ran great, but the accelerator pump leaked fuel and i wanted to remedy that before she caught on fire!

I couldn't figure out what Holley carb it was, so I called Holley. After rattling off a bunch of numbers I found on it he found it.

It is a Holley 350 cfm 2 barrel. OK cool, so I purchased a rebuild kit #3-888.

I tore into it and did what I could. replaced the accel pump, and something else I dont know what its called. It screwed in and had a spring on it! lol

OK, time to fire it.

started leaking out of the fuel inlet, fixed that.

next it flamed out of the carb a few times.

I gave it a rest, tried again. Fires up ,but I have to keep pumping the fuel to keep it alive. It wont idle now!

I went through it all and sprayed out every hole I could find and it was all clear. I replaced whatever gaskets I took off and was sure to check and NOT cover any ports.

WTF!!!????

350cfm seems really small, but anyway...

do you have something to monitor the rpm and vacuum? get those tools first and then we can go about giving it a good tune and making sure it runs right.

even if you get a new carb you'll have to get those tools to set it up properly. You can get both from harbor frieght for arond $50.

Check for vac leaks by spraying carb clearer around the base while its idling (or as close to idle as you can get) If the rpm changes in a certain location as you spray the carb cleaner thats the source of the vac leak.

I think I know what it might be. Someone had 3 gaskets on the intake, one of them was metal and covered a certain area that the new one didnt. If that is it it would be a massive dime size hole. But I wouldnt think it would run at all with that big of a leak...ill let ya know.

yeah if you just say "vac leak" enough in random threads turns out you are bound to be right eventually.
