Default Paint compatability?

Im seeing that orileys sells a line of ready to spray laquer paint and primers. The question is, will a ppg shop line base be compatible with the oriley primer? I want to get this thing painted but im pinching pennies too.

this place has great deals on primer.... ive used most of there products and have had great results... dont mess with the crap from autozone..
http://www.restorationshop.com/

ive see a whole car done with that brand of paint and it looked really thin and cheap. The shine was horrible and looked like rattle can.

do not use lacquer it will crows foot on your...and it will lift when you spray anything else on top of it. also i have used shop line a good bit and the clear will lift after a few years...i used it on my tacoma and the clear is delaminating quickly...i like PPG products but if youre trying to save money use the Omni line its cheaper than regular ppg but its way better than the shop line

Lacquer primer is so 25 years ago....

Find the $ to go with a 2K surfacer at the least. It is SO MUCH better than the old lacquer.....

There are good brands available that won't cost you an arm and a leg, like Motor City and some others.

Go to a auto paint store, talk to the counter people some, let them know you are active military and short on funds. You might be surprised at how much leeway a counter person can have on pricing. You could save a third OR MORE off list price.

With a litle luck and perseverance, you can get "good stuff" for the price of mediocre paint.

Aight! I think i might end up reclearing the whole car and touch up my problem areas while im at this fix. Can I just scuff with a 600 grit or 1000sausage and then spray clear to that? I want to add the clear so i can cut and buff it all when im done. Nice deep shine.

You could scuff with 600 if you work really hard, but a 400 (Purple) Scotchbrite will make your life a lot easier with no downside.

2 or 3 will do your whole car.

yeah you can definitely scotchbright...you dont want to go over board with clear either too much will make it look cloudy 2-3 good coats is all you need then when you get done you sand it flat and buff out the shine.

i used a mix of rattle can sandable primer (made a great smooth surface, looked/felt identical to spray gun primer that i had on parts of the car) then i used a single stage paint. turned out very good imo.
