Default 351w build

okay so it looks like peak horsepower is a 7500rpm on a 351w how do i go about making it reliably rev that high and does anybody know if the trade off is worth it to install 4-bolt main caps, ya know have them drilled and stuff

one more thing anybody have any information on nos ive been puttering around the idea of running it but i haven't been able to find much info on how to build the motor up handle it

i'm looking for a block so if anybody knows a casting number to look out for feel free to throw it out there and i looked at the ford racing block didn't look super hot to me what do ya'll think

i'm pretty much just looking for information and doing research trying to figure out which way to go it's gunna go in my 67 coupe thanks ahead for any info guys

from what i've read, the cost to convert a stock block to 4-bolt mains isn't worth it as compared to an aftermarket block. the strength gain is apparently limited since you are cutting more holes in the webs.

given that your peak N/A power is around 7500 and you want to throw nitrous at it, seems like you are a perfect candidate for a stronger block. plus you get the benefit of the cleveland mains.

this is based on what i've read only. i'm running a 69 block but only pushing 500hp at 5700 in a street car.

If you want to build a 351W that turns 7,500 reliably, you are going to need to spend some real money.

I think you need to start HERE... http://www.adperformance.com/index.p...roducts_id=192

This block uses the smaller Cleveland mains which will help with the rpm you want to run.

Add a good forged Eagle or SCAT crank and rods and you will have the beginnings of what you are looking for.

You will need to spend a lot on a carefully selected valvetrain also.

If you are confined to a "stock block", if it were mine, I wouldn't build to exceed about 6,200 rpm.

Remember, with each DOUBLING of speed, inertial forces increase TEN FOLD. The inertial stress differential on a 6,000 rpm engine and a 7,500 rpm engine is DOUBLE. (20% speed increase X 10 = twice the inertial force.)

I don't know what level of power you are looking to get to, or how much you want to spend to get there, but if building a reliable engine for under $15,000 is important to you, you might consider adding some cubes and dropping some of your rpm expectations.

Extrapolating from my experience of building lesser engines than what you are shooting for, you will spend at least $15,000 even if you build it yourself. ( I am talking "motor", never mind the nitrous and other stuff)

An engine like you propose probably means that you wont be able to use ANYTHING but bolts and brackets for a stock 351.

If the engine hasn't been built how do you know what rpm the peak hp occurs at?

pluged all the parts i wanna use into a dyno program ran the program peak hp was at 7500rpm so now it's just a problem of confirming that it's correct and that certain parts will handle that kind of stress
