I think a 295mm wide tire is about the max without too much trouble.

that's about 11.6". if that's the case then I should have no problems with a 10.5". The thing is can I have a 19-20" (17" rim 50-60mm tall tire) total wheel diameter and still maintain the same width with no rubbing issues assuming correct backspacing.

Is this car a lowrider with 20" diameter tires?
I can't imagine what the ride would feel like...

no it's lowered 1" and the new rims will be 17x 10 or 10.5 in the back and 17x8 up front. But with the tire on the overall diameter will probably be around 19".

Wow...not much room for air in there. What is the tire size exactly?
It might look like a lowrider though, but it is yours to do with what you like.
Am I the only one here surprised by this?

I want the rear tires to tuck a little bit. I think initially I'm going to mock up with a 255 50R17 and see how that fits. I'm just going to stick with a 10" wide rim.

I think the tire diameter for 255/50/17 would be around 27", which is kind of tall, not 19" which is way short.

thx that link is very helpful. From what I looked through I'd be best off with a 285x40 17 tire. Thinking about the nitto nt555. Overall diameter is just under 26". I'd like to get something like a 285x30, but the calculator says that tire isn't produced?
