Default 1967 Side mirrors

I have the square remote mirror on the drivers side and the dummy on the other.

I want to replace the mounting screws and "nuts" but dont know how to remove the old ones. The link below is what I bought and what I need to remove.

Some one didnt use the correct screws and messed up the original ones.

Please help...

Also, How the hell do you get to the door handle hardware to replace them?!

I took off the inner door cardboard leather piece and then you have to reach up behind the window gear (with the window up) with a small set of vise grips and latch on. Mine were rusted so I sprayed blindly some PB blaster and let it set for a few minutes.

Those square mirrors suck btw. I bought a set 5 years ago and now they move around too much even when I have the main screw as tight as it will go.

For the door handle stuff check out http://shop.autocraftinvestments.com...dle-496-1.html

Click through your model and inside or outside handle stuff. Again, with the handle, I just squirted some liquid wrech or something to free it up.

The nuts must be carefully drilled out. The replacements you show are correct, but require a special tool, basically a pop-rivet tool on steroids. Some claim you can do it with a bolt and some washers, but that never worked for me.

The back end is held by the Phillips head machine screw, visible at the back of the door. The nut on the front must be accessed through the door panel.

The rubber ones you are thinking of are common hardware-store replacements normally used for this repair. The OEM steel nuts shown above are correct, but difficult to install.

There are two screws. The one visible in the round boss from the front, and one inside the stem, visible only when the mirror is removed from the door. Tighten both of those, and it'll never move again.

I bought my set from Mustangs Plus and YES they are rubber. The picture you show is obviously not rubber. Just telling you what I have.

I did notice that I accidentally bought the kit for 65-66. The mounting screws seem much smaller than what is existing in my door.

Also, I think I understand what you are saying about having to use a special tool for the mounting "nut". I think with the rubber ones once you tighten the screw it will pinch itself into place also causing a tight seal at the same time.

Here is the tool you need to install the nut inserts. http://www.harborfreight.com/45-piec...-kit-1210.html The inserts come with the tool. I have seen the rubber inserts and never liked them, always had trouble with them. Not sure if the ones you posted the link to are rubber or metal
