Default Intake question

Besides the Performer intake what would be a good match for the Edelbrock 1406 (600cfm) carb?

Stock 289 with a 2barrel, wanting to upgrade to the 4barrel!

The Performer RPM is superior to the Performer. If you prefer original period stuff, the Cobra is almost as good as the RPM.

You would use an RPM on a stock motor?

I'd run a regular Performer, or maybe a Weiand Action Plus.

OK, then, bear in mind the regular Performer is almost exactly the same performance as a stock cast-iron manifold. Not that there's anything wrong with that, my 289 High Performance engine is now wearing it's original iron manifold, and it's pretty stout.

We did the same on our 302.
We've been happy with the Weiand 8124 and a 1405.

I don't know about that. I had a Performer 289 for a while and compared it to a stock 4 barrel manifold. The plenum is taller and the runners aren't quite the same. It also doesn't weigh 50lbs:P I wouldn't expect to see any significant difference in the butt-o-meter between the two, but I definitely wouldn't go out and buy a cast iron 4V manifold, even if only for the weight savings.

The RPM manifold is designed for 1500-6500 rpm use. The standard Performer intake is designed for use from off-idle to 5500rpm, where I'd expect a stock engine to be more comfortable.

Yes I do understand the difference in power band between the two. I am thinking performer only cause it is stock!

I will eventually be building a 351...hopefully!
