MPG for a 302 & 347
as the title says, just looking for some info on city and highway driving. I'm thinking a 6 speed tranny would go a long way into pushing those numbers up. Which 6 speed would be a good choice with each of those (the 302 and the 347)

Well, I drive mine about 3 days a week and I built it up a bit. It's actually a pretty quik little car. You can if you want to. Have a lurked extra power but not spend a ton of $ throw a 100 shot of nitrous on it. It's safe easy and fun.

Mine is a 302 bored .030 over, performer rpm heads, airgap intake, matching cam, 6AL MSD box, Holley 670 Street Avenger (72 primary, 68 secondary jets), 5 speed manual (.68 5th gear) and 3.89 gears.
I average 12-13 mpg in the city, but I occasionally drive like a jackass. On the highway (I drove from North Carolina to Mass and back) I get 20 mpg.

If your looking to improve your MPG, save your money on the 6 speed trans and just get an EFI setup. On either engine setup that you go with, the EFI will help the engine run more efficiently. Depending on your driving characteristics, you would probably achieve around 25 - 27 mpg with a 302 EFI, rear gears that aren't too steep, and a C4/C6 trans.
Depending if you go with the EFI setup that was found on the 86-93 mustangs, you might have enough money left over to do a big part of a 5 speed swap. But that swap may only get you another 2 mpg.

The one with the lowest final drive for hwy. In the city, it's not gonna matter much.
