Alternator question...
I checked to see if my battery was charging via an article in Mustangs Monthly.
Basically I am only getting 12v to the battery when running.
What else can I check?

Stator wire on the stator post
GNd on the ground post
Verify ground at alt (set Ohms 1 led to a ground 1 lead to end of gnd wire at alt reading 0.00 to 0.20)
Battery on the batt post
verifty 12v at the alternator (DMM to V 1 lead to good gnd 1 to battery wire at alt reading -.50 V to 0.00v from nominal)
field wire on the field post
have alt tested

Where does the alt ground to? block or ...
Thanks.
Alt gnds to any solid clean gnd of your choice.. Not sure where it went originally. If you suspect bad gnd you can run a new wire on top of the old wire for dual gnd wires and gnd new to any good gnd source and if problem is fixed trouble shoot old gnd wire as I think it may also play a roll with the interior lights or gauges...not sure.
If stator and field are reversed...it wont function.. check that too
stator runs to regulator S
Filed runs to regulator F
I have found testing these wires to be difficult....check by color...stator= white and black
field= white

I will look into it more tomorrow in the daylight. Thanks for the info!
