I personally don't recommend glass-paks due to the crackling racket they produce during deceleration. (reminds me of the 40-'s and 50's low-rider chopped cars out here on the west coast- ain't nothing high performance sounding about it!!!)

I am running a couple of "high end" stainless packs on my 39..... I am going to need to blow my own horn and say that without a diubt, IT DOES have that "high performance sound".... Everyone who has heard it run won't disagree with me, at least to my face.

Glasspacks on a poor running engine, or a "smogger" will sound like ****...

Lots of glasspacks are crudely welded on close to the collectors and dump under the car, these sound like **** too.

Mine are welded into a full 2 1/2" exhaust, fed by a moderately healthy fuel injected 408W, and they dump right out the back of the car. I will take the "Pepsi Challenge" against any "turbo" mufler....

And besides the fact of my packs sounding damn good, they tend to fit better under most any car, especially mine, turbos are bulky...

Not true. Turbo mufflers are glass-packed, usually involving two perforated tubes within the muffler, one in and one out. Many companies still make 'turbo' mufflers. I had some Midas Super Turbos on my car before my Hushpowers. They're very tame until high rpm's, at which point they sound like defective glasspacks, heh.

JMD, your glasspacks look like oversized Hushpowers They were made for applications like that.

Obviously you guys are more up on this than I.

JMD - I like the shot of the chassis - nice work! The point was all of the glass paks I've ever experienced make a "blatting" sound on deceleration and sometimes on acceleration. I would agree they're most like just crap parts to start with. More importantly, if you got good ones, like the way they sound and you like em -cool. (Personally, I get real tired of listening to the lowrider chopped cars come to stop in front of my house- it sounds like a herd of goats farting!)

Star fury, the turbos that were on my SB Nova in the 80's didn't have any fiberglass just chambers. With that said, obviously, I've been away from the auto repair industry for several years so I couldn't tell you what they make mufflers out of today other than the outer shell.- thanks for the update.

Exhaust is all personal preference.IMO, stock is nowhere near performace sounding.Flowmaster sound is old(i had them once and liked them when I was 16).I have Magnflow now on everything and like them the best.I have also had Borla and Flowtech Warlocks,Gibson,Thrush Turbos, Dynomax. And glasspacks are just annoying. But again, just my opinion

I think you're right on. I'm almost 40 now, and Flowmasters remind me of the 80's era Mustangs I never could afford when I was 16.

As a side note, I run Flowmaster Super 44's on my 67. I like the sound, but I totally respect that others dislike them.

Depends on what "old school" means to you,...oldest old school would have to be glass packs in my mind, can't get much more old school than that, throaty when idling, mean when stomped on.
