Default Help with Floor Hole Please

Ok, so first of all, this is probably a dumb question to some of you experienced guys, but I want to know how to fix this hole in my drivers side front floor pan.
The area is affect by rust and is about 3in X 3in, I dont really want to buy a whole new pan for 150 bucks. Im not going for a show car, and no one is going to be seeing my floor.
What is the floor made of in a 1968 Mustang? I have a wire feed welder and can weld well. Im planning on fabbing up my own little patch panel, but I dont know what material to use.

The floor should be made from either 16 or 18 gauge steel...

Either one would work well for this repair imo.
