Default ashtray ipod mount

I have a 32 gig ipod touch that i want to mount in my ashtray when it's open. I already have a wire run through the dash and into the glovebox where my aftermarket HU is. Anybody fabricate something like this or know what direction i should go? Thanks for the help!

I built similar mounts for my sirius unit in two of my cars. Pick up an extra ashtray from a bone yard or mustang shop, that way you have one to work with so you don't destroy the one good one. It looks like your IPOD is too wide to slide into the ashtray slot, correct? Do you have a cradle for your IPOD that you can attach to the ashtray, either on top when it's open or in front?

I think it will fit but i haven't actually checked yet. And i think i want it to fit in when the ashtray is open. I'll close it otherwise to keep it clean.

Can you mount a dock in the ashtray that you can slide the ipod into when its open?

Thats where i put my i pod. What head unit? I have a an alpine and i can change the song through the radio with a remote i usually just use that. So i just drilled a hole like 1/2 or 3/4 or something like that to get one end of the cord through the ashtray, then just zip tied it so i still have about a foot or so of length so i can grab my ipod and switch the song on it if i wanted. I drilled the hole low so it easy slides back through the hole easy. Mine closes with an ipod in it but i think mine is a smaller ipod touch.

I have been wanting to do this for my '67, you could probably order an iPod case that you could either glue or something into the ashtray, where you could then connect the iPod to a wire while "docked" in the case, in the ashtray. That was my idea at least.

That's kind of what i was thinking. I like the idea of putting a dock inside the ashtray. Do they make iPod dock to that headphone (aux) input chord or adapter?

What connector for your iPod are you using? The headphone jack or the wide-skinny plug at the bottom?

Just put some sticky back Velcro on the dash and the back of the iPod.

Problem is the velcro won't hold 100%, and when driving will rattle in the ash tray. Also if you use the iPod in a workout band it may not fit with the velcro additon.
