I use a headphone jack and i 2nd the velcro thing. I was thinking of somehow having a little spring loaded clip that would hold it in place without rattling arround or going airborne every time i punch it.

 

If I were going to do something like that I would buy a hard case for it. find a snug place in the ashtray for it to fit into. Trim if soome of it if you have to but no so much that the case won't hold onto the ipod and then epoxy the case into place. This should allow you to pop the ipad in and out whenever you need to make changes to your music.
