Default Wiring problems?

My under dash curtesy lights gave me a problem. I solved it and everything was great.
Now, again, the lights do not come on (glove box light does, same harness) and the new twist is that I only have headlights when I am on high beams.

I detest and sometimes avoid electrical problems so I'm looking for some suggestions as to where do I start.

Good starting point may be fuses, but for the headlights, I'd replace the headlight switch. they are pretty cheap and fairly easy to get to.

It was the dimmer switch.
because of the way I installed the carpet, the connection to the switch had shifted slightly. I un-connected it, re-connected it and viola!!! Power to the headlights goes through the dimmer switch so it had to be there.
I fixed the issue with the carpet so it shouldn't happen again. but if it does, I know where to look first.
