I honestly wouldn't expect 300 hp at the wheels with those mods, but the more pieces of the puzzle you put together the better. You don't see the true benifits of alot of mods until you do the other mods that compliment them. If your block is orginal taking it to .030" should be no problem. .030" over is still stable and is the most common overbore. Have the block x-rayed for cracks or anything though.

what about getting used 351w 2v or 4v heads? given they are cast iron could that possibly be a cheep way around spending 1500 for a new set of aluminum heads? or are aluminum heads far better than the old Windsor heads? because Ive been planing on completely rebuilding my 289 and the stroker idea is great and I'm thinking about running with it when I finally get a chance to rebuild my engine and I'm in the same place as stangsrda**** with haveing a budget so that's why I am asking about the 351w heads.

New edelbrock performer RPM heads are 500 bux each, so a total of 1K. Another grand for the stroker kit, and you still have 2 grand for carb, intake, headers, cam and exhaust system. But, then again, you can get a turnkey crate engine with all this stuff already on it for a little over 5K.

Or a brand new Ford Racing 302 @ 3199$. Car Craft dynoed this to 370bhp with an intake similar to the Edelbrock performer RPM and a 625 Road Demon.
I have this engine myself, and I`m more thaan pleased.
You`d have a hard time building a reliable and long-lasting 289/302 that put out the same amount of hp at this price.

Yesl, but that's not a turnkey engine. You still have to spend between 1K to 1.5K to get it ready to install.

Yeah I know it`s just a long-block, but you can reuse most of the parts from your original engine. But then again, you won`t have the same amount of power.
BUT you can get close (Probably even better than the EFI system Ford tested the engines with) with a setup similar to this:
(prices from SummitRacing)
Edelbrock Performer RPM, 160$
Holley 4160, 260$
Mallory distributor, 225$
MSD coil, 40$
Harmonic balancer, since you most likely use a V-belt drive, 60$
Fel-Pro gaskets, 40$
=785$
(may want to put some more in the carb)

Any way you go this is good $ per reliable horsepower
