Tranny trouble
I have a 67 mustang coupe. I've been rebuilding the auto gear shift. I purchased a new shift lever cable and tried to install it when I realized it was too long. So, I started inquiring about why. If I look on mustang parts websites every gear shift I see for a 67 mustang is bent. Mine is straight and short. The cable I removed is 8.5" long. The ones on the web say they are 9", but overall length on the one I received is 9.5". Also in my research I found that the transmission is an FMX. Any ideas on 1) what auto has a short straight gear shift? 2) could I cut the cable and make a adequate crimp and how would I go about doing this?

I am talking about actual cable that runs through the gear shift, not the linkage from the gear shift to transmission. I found a website that had pictures of the pan to identify the transmission. I also found a website with the numbers from the transmission to identify. They indicate it is an FMX from a 76 Torino.
