Default Boss 302 question

Anyone have an idea if these motors went into any cougars? Maybe an eliminators? My mercury knowledge is limited at best. There is a craigslist sale claiming that she has one, how do I verify the motor as a Boss 302?

The freeze plugs in the block are screw in normal 302 are pressed in,Also the block casting numbers which are under the starter will tell the truth. The odds are its not a true boss but it could be.

This is a G code Cougar Eliminator. Very rare, the Eliminator standard engine was the 351, optional was the BOSS 302 and 428. The BOSS version is the most rare, the average buyer couldn't understand why the smaller engine was more expensive.

i dunno the casting numbers...but look for cleveland heads on a windsor block and screw in freeze plugs along with 4 bolt mains its the only factory windsor iirc to get 4 bolt mains even the hipo 289s were 2 bolt(they had upgraded main caps though)

if it doesnt have screw in freeze plugs its not a boss block...also i doubt youre gonna find one but you can try

A lot of people use to buy valve covers that said boss 302 and people believed it was true.
Casting numbers on a BOSS 302 should be C80E-6015-B, C8FE-6015-B for early '69. C9ZE-6015A or B or D0ZE-6015-A for '69. D0ZE-6015-B for '69 & '70. D1ZE-6015-B for service block.for the cougars with the boss 302 only 637 was built the 2 years total.I heard there was a boss 302 mavrick in mexico but no clue on numbers of if it was true.

Take a look at the intake. The early boss's had "Fireing Order" on them. Here's a link on the intakes.

As important as verifying the engine is verifying the car. A "G" code Eliminator would be a very rare and special find. Look for the G as the engine code in the VIN.
