Default 1972 Mustang

Hey I have what I am guessing is a 1972 Mustang Sportsroof R-Code Sprint Edition.

Has anyone ever heard of this car that's willing to share information with me?

My father and I would like to start restoring his old Mustang, it was running when it was parked, it was properly winterized and all gas and antifreeze was taken out I believe. The only problem is that rats got into it and chewed up all the interior. It's got the HO-C engine and painted just like the Sprint and I think it also has the little flag near the back, 4 spd auto.

Any information would be appreciated, Thanks!

The only real way to know is to purchase a MARTI report for your VIN. here's the link: www.martiauto.com

I googled it and found this site listing a few 72 sprint sports roof cars I believe.

I will get a Marti report, debating on the deluxe or Elite. He sure likes to brag about it, just wondering if I should let him hang his ego on the wall...

Thanks everyone for the information, I will get back with you after I get the Marti report done, if I can find my copy of the VIN number.

If it truly is an R code sprint with the original HO drivetrain that is a rare and valuable car and should be carefully (and professionally) restored. It is a valuable piece of history and should be treated as such.

That would be a Q code 351 4V not an R code 351 HO. Still a nice car.

There is a registry and forum for sprints:

http://www.1972mustangsprint.com/

As well as a forum specifically for 71-73 Mustangs:

http://www.7173mustangs.com/portal.php

Best of luck restoring your car!.

The Sprint had a 3 speed automatic. I believe they came with C4 or C6 or FMX models. If you do have a HO (high ouput) it may be a transplant along with the trans. I do know there were not very many of these basically detuned 1971 Boss engines produced. How are you identifying the HO? I owned a 72 cj, q code with a C6 trans. Enjoy!

Default 1972 mustang

I just recently bought a 1972 mustang fastback. It is Dust Rose in color. I heard there were only 300 of this color made. Is this a rare car? If so, how rare. Thinking of changing the color, but if it is in fact rare, should I go back to factory color?
