Default C4 Rebuild

What should I expect to pay for a basic rebuild of my C4 that is out of the car? I know prices are going to vary depending on where I live (TX) but wanted to get an idea. I need a new torque converter also. Should I buy at one of the catalogs (summit/jegs) or have the rebuilder install.

Never had an auto rebuilt.

If there are any DFW members that have vendor recomendations, I welcome them.

Just asked a customer of mine that runs a small shop the exact same question. He quoted me $350 plus parts. Said it was his standard for a bench job like this. I'm in western Arkansas.

Why not try doing it yourself? You can buy complete rebuild kits and if it's like a TH350 at all, should be pretty easy. I found that rebuilding the T-5 I installed was one of the most rewarding parts of the build so far.

i had it done for ~400, that included replacing the front pump (i assure you i had nothing to do with it breaking )

and anything that obviously needed replacing.

If you're gonna do a bench build, spend the extra money on a C-servo, rigid bands, extra clutches, valve body, etc. You'll thank yourself later. I paid $600 for mine.

Thanks. I would try to rebuild but I know that it will end up with the pile of carburetors, a spare muncie and other things that I am going to "one day rebuild". I need this back in the car, not sitting on the shelf. :-)

Any DFW guys have any recommendations?

What about the torque convertor? Is that something I can buy from one of the catalogs?

most new TC i see are 3-400$, and prices rise from there depending on quality and stall RPM.

I'd let the rebuilder spec out your TC. But buy it separately from him unless he can price match the lowest price you find elsewhere. If you're looking for higher stall and such, he may advise you to go with a more performance rebuild.

"A" servo is better then B, and C. I would get a saxco convertor...with the proper stall, or no stall, for your specific engine combo.
