Default PERTRONIX ELECTRONIC IGNITION, FLAMETHOWER COIL QUESTION????

I'm converting over my '69 302 2 bbl. Going with Electronic ignition and coil. Instead of the old points. I ordered it this morning from NPD: Ignitor by Pertronix and the 40k volt Flamethrower coil. After already placing the order, I see in another catalog of a different company that there are 2 coil options, 1 is 1.8 Ohms and the other is 3 Ohms. I'm just curious since I wasn't given a option from NPD which one is the one that I need. I know the coil has the built in resistance which is what I wanted. So I could do away with the resistance wire running to the ignition switch. The kid I bought it from wired his damn after market stereo right into that wire (you know the 1 that states don't splice). So trying to start it for the 1st time. I had smoke rolling from under the dash pad

Any thoughts on the Ohm's would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

Hi,
First, the Pertronix "sparkies" like a dedicated 12Vs. So, you can by-pass the ignition resistance wire. If still applicable in '69. As far as the coils go, there are those with built-in resistance and those that use an external resistance system. The kit you purchased from NPD should be correct for your car. As far as the smoke goes, evidently a "hot" (12V) wire grounded. Was it your resistance lead?
Good Luck!

The 3 ohm units are primarily for 6 cyl engines. The 1.5 ohm coils are for V8's with the Ignitor system. they have different primary to secondary coil winding turn differences.

the 0.32 and 0.6 ohm coils are for Ignitor 2 or 3 systems
