What does "matching numbers" really mean?
OK.
It would seem that some believe that here are, or may be some date codes on the engine that should correlate t the build date, but even that is argumentative.
there is consensus tho that, for all practical purposes, there is no such thing as a "numbers Matching" classic Mustang.
You will however see them advertised that way.
Mine was.
It was also advertised as a "ground up restoration. Needs nothing".
If you want to see the bottom of my restored Mustang there are some pix at

Thanks for the comments, guys.
Where I come from (Other cars) Numbers Matching DOES mean something.

Your problem isnt so much about matching numbers! I hope you know where this guy is is he in your local area. I read a story where a guy spent 22000 on a 65 convertible and when he got the car it was junk. It looked nice but it was junk. The inspector siad it was un drivable. Get as many people involved and dont let the seller know just yet. because he might flee.
How much did you pay for that. Where did you get it? ebay?

Taylor this is an Ebay car from a car dealer that has a good rating.
I paid over 16K for the car.
I paid 770 to get it delivered and I paid 1K to register it and sales tax.
Another 225 for insurance.
Not knowing I had bought a misrepresented vehicle, I also bought an owners manual, a shop manual and a car cover.
I still want to give the guy a chance.
But now we are in the "No returnee Phone call" phase.
My mechanic REALLY wants to talk to the guy about selling a mustang that
has the Shock Towers bolted and screwed into the car. No welds on the shock towers.
So I just got off the phone with my Mechanic.
I'm fixin' to go back to Texas in the AM to see my daughter, so I had turned it over
to the mechanic to try and get the guy to return a call.
Well he did!
And the mechanic lit into him (In a nice way, he said) and the seller said he wanted
the opportunity to go back to the guy that traded this car in.
So we will give the seller a few days and then when I return from Texas on Monday, it will be time for a
come to Jesus meeting. There is still the chance that a good rated seller on Ebay, that
owns a dealership, is a good guy.
At least I want to believe that.
I'm hoping to hear back from the MCA by the weekend.

I just look your pictures and try to get big picture what on earth has happened. It seems that your car needs some new sheet metal and TLC. If they sold it to you as restored ready to show or go car I think some other people have different point of view. I try to post later on my pictures of doors and new door skins. In my Mustang there were same problem and only way was separate door frame and sandblast it. Then we put new door skin when everything was clean and between frame and skin there is 3M metal bonding agent. If that kind of door is just repaired with old parts that repair will last one to two years.
But those shock towers? Is that part which is inside of engine bay bolted? I don´t see it in your picture. If you look these two picture one is yours and one I found from internet.

There is allways bolts in that part. In my Mustang those bolts attached only the outer side of shock tower. When bolts are opened you can take outer part away and then change front coil spring. If inner side of the schock tower is attached with those bolts this seems quite interesting.
