Default 289 water pump suggestions?

I noticed that the temp was constantly creeping upwards of 210 within 25-30 min of driving when it used to sit at 180-190...then i noticed that the fan was wobbling and in back of the water pump pulley there was coolant accumulating...i popped the water pump off and tried to take as many pictures as possible through out the removal process. Im guessing its original...heavy as sh!* too! All rust inside as well as in the hoses.

i am pulling this 289 next summer but for now does anyone have a suggestion as to a nice replacement water pump to use? i saw cardone pumps on rock auto for as cheap as 27 bucks but i wanted some of your opinions. This pump was put on in the following order: pump, gasket, backing-plate, gasket, engine. I've never done one before so any tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just use one I got from OhReally? auto parts. Its cast iron and I think it came with a lifetime warranty...not sure though. Been working well for a few years now daily driven.

They make some cool aluminum ones but im not sure if they are worth the extra $ or which manufacture makes a good one...

aren't there only a couple of those? IIRC when i took it off most of the bolts were around the perimeter. Is there a bolt diagram that anyone knows of?

The long bolts into the block go into the water jackets and should be sealed with Permatex #2 (or something equivalent).

I have an aluminum Weiand water pump that I'm happy with. That said, there really isn't a huge reason to upgrade aside from weight savings. In any case, try to stay away from reman pumps. I work at O'Reilly's and I try really hard not to sell Cardone reman water pumps. They come back way too often.

ok thanks...so just apply it to the threads and thats it? i was thinking of getting that black gasket maker also to put a little in between the pump and gasket for an even better seal...so the long bolts into the block go into the water jackets...from what i remember there are two small bolts that go straight into the mid section of the pump also...should i seal up those?

No, the only threads that get sealant are the long ones that go through the timing cover into the block. Everything else can get anti-sieze for posterity's sake, but that's not absolutely required either.

A thin smear of black RTV on the mating gaskets would be a good idea. Just don't go overboard.
