Default electric fuel pump

So I initially thought that my valves were floating and causing my car to miss horribly. And then after a hard day of flogging on the car i am thinking now that it is a lack of fuel. I can get it to the redline in first at 6200 rpms but then in 2nd it craps out at 5500 and then in 3rd it craps out at 4800 rpms.
I am currently running a Holly high perf. mech fuel pump. I was thinking about install an electric fuel pump.

-So i am asking which pump should I get

-Where do I install it. (near the tank or up front)

-should I have a separate switch for it or just run it off the ignition

The pump need to go be installed near the tank and run it off a switch( that can be used like a kill switch also).

It does sound like a lack of fuel problem but a GOOD mechanical pump should more than meet your needs..I am running a carter mechanical on my 408 and it works great. Also be sure to check all of your lines and filters for restrictions..It may not be the pump at fault.

Hi,
If you move forward adding an electric pump, incorporate a relay and an inertia switch. This switch will kill the pump, in the event of a collision. Incorporate a relay to lessen the amps passing through your switch. Those pumps can pull 6-10 amps and will overload a typical switch, especially the ignition SW. Don't forget to add a fuel pressure regulator to limit the pressure to approximately 4-6 lbs. psi.
Good Luck!

I can't imaging it being your pump either. When did it start doing this? Maybe floats need adjusting and it starving for fuel. Also gas line size - if you convereted from a 6 maybe your gas line is not sufficent for an 8 cyl. I put an electric on mine and sorry I did. Expensive, noisey, and another point of failure.

It was originally an 8. Im sick of chasing problems. They are small but annoying.

a good mech pump will work upto about 500hp.

It sounds like your fuel pump is failing or there is a a restriction some where in the line.

I had a failing mech fuel pump and it would run excellent in 1st gear but totally fall on its face in 2nd or 3 gear.

I installed a mech fuel pressure gauge inside the car (which isnt advise but whatever) where I could monitor it. I started off at 6lbs. Then when I floored it it would drop to about 2 to 3 psi then drop to 0 right after the 2nd gear shift then fall on its face about 2 seconds later.
