Default 1970 mach 1 restore questions

Hello fellow Stang lovers, I have owned my 1970 mach 1 mustang since 1982.

I need to do a full restore on it, I have questions about were to start.
I know floor boards need replaced, quater panels, suspension, wiring etc.

I'm scared beacuse I have never really done anything like this before. I don't have the money to have someone do it either. I have friends that can do some support.

I would like some in put if anyone can help direct me. I will put some pics up soon.

thanks

do you have the tooling to support this type of effort? how about a place for the work (indoor space, neighbors, etc)?

Get the book, 'Mustang Restoration Handbook' by Taylor and Wilson, ISBN 0-89586-402-9 and read it. Then decide what you will do next.

If a drive and restore. Safety items first. Suspension brakes. Otherwise just start one thing at a time. Beside book already mentioned get a set of shop manuals. Lot of good information on net. Very rare when I can't find something on what I'm tackling. Also get yourself a good compressor. Quincey makes a nice 2 stage reasonably priced. Mig welder is another good investment. Good luck.

I did a driving resto on my Dart and finally two years later its nearly done. Just like palerider said, safety first if you want to do a driving resto. If it runs I'd drive it even if it was beat up a bit. These Mustangs you can build pretty much out of a catalog now so its not like its impossible to find parts. Mechanics tool kit from craftsman is also a good investment, nice good kit for these old cars. If you want to pull the motor and trans recommend Harbor freight engine cherry picker and stand, good value for what you pay for.

thanks all, I have already pulled the motor and trans, I have plenty of space in my garage to perform most task, I'm looking into compressor and have a friend with mig welder. One other question, Is there a way to move the shock towers in? I need more room for the 351C I will rebuild to put headers on? I will also look into the manuals.

thanks all

The shock towers are fine both big blocks will bolt right in that car. Some people have done a small notch on the shock towers maybe a inch in down to above the upper a arm bolt holes.Anything deeper then that would take changing out the whole front suspension and about 2 or 3 grand do so.

351C was on option for the 70 stang, so why worry about the shock towers?
My 377 Clevor fits, which has a taller block. Getting to the spark plugs takes some practice, that's all...
