Default VIN Check help

Hey guys, before I start dumping my money into my 69 FB I want to check the VIN as i prolly should have done it before getting it I traded for the car and was given bill of sale as a trade but no other papers (guy never found them), I tried searching my CA DMV site and can't find anything unless Im using wrong terms in the search box. I looked up if there were fees and said it could not idetify the number sooo I know its out of the DMV system. But I still want to check the title history ( if its clean) since the last time the plates were in date was 1993. I did do a search on here and found nothing really helpful to find a VIN check that is free. The guy I got it from had it 10 years +

So I looked up my VIN on a decoder and in 1979 there is another mustang with the exact same VIN and it also shows my car? not sure what this means? I did find another site called "decode this" and i looked up my vin and it shows that 79 but not my 69 car?? I then tried my coupe that I have a title for on the same site and shows its there.

Have you checked the hidden vins to make sure everything matches? As far as running a vin just ask any cop you know most will do it for you.

I looked on my dash and saw a plate there with # matching to the door plate, hard to read but its there, and the one on the fender matches the plate in the door. I have a friend who knows a sheriff so he will ask the cop

The hidden vins are under the fenders on the same lip the under hood vin is but on both sides between the shock tower and firewall.I just don't trust anyone selling a old car the vins you can see are easy to change the hidden ones most don't know are there.
