Default 393 stroker.

Hi, I have a 65 mustang that I'm thinking about doing a 393 stroker in. Its just a fun car that wont be road hard or taken to the track I just want something that will really go now and again when I want to play around. It currently has a 351w that has some modifications to it and I am wondering if the 393 stroker can be done with the block in the car and If it was possible for me to use a scat 3.850 crank, Keep my stock rods and order a set of 302 dished pistons for it. Also would this be a worth the money or would I not notice a real difference over my 351. The motor currently has a RPM intake, with RPM cam, The heads have been ported and polished with 1.94 and 1.54 valves and a set of mid length headers. Thanks

Find a free copy of Dyno 2000 online and run some numbers to get a feel for the difference it will make.

A 408 is about the same cost, yes you will feel a big difference but you will need some larger heads other wise using your current components you will have a smoother idle and massive torque up to about 3500 and it will drop off fast. You need to pull the motor to do it right.

Ok well then for now I'm gonna get a set of AFR #1388 for it and down the road I'll pull it out to stroke it. I just really dont have a place to do that again right now.

You need to take the block out to build the stroker motor.

I would go a set of twisted wedge 190 cc as cast vs afr's they have better low lift flow (even the 170cc do) over the afr's and they can grow bigger for a stroker where the afr's cant. I had the 170cc on my 351 and then had them cnc ported to 205cc for my 408.

Default 393!

Hey! my name is Sam. I am new here but this site is awesome!! I have a 89 351w block stroked to 393. I also have a probe forged internals kit minus cams and heads. What would everyone recommend? I want to maximize my potential power. Also, can I oversize the heads if i plan in supercharging soon?

This is a good free tool for ballpark estimates, especially for different combos.
