Question 1969 MACH 1 Wheel Size

I know this is a subject that has been talked about alot but I still need answers. I have a '69 Mach 1 that I bought new in 1969. It is completely stock with stock suspension. I am going to buy new rims and tires but am having trouble getting info on the size that will work. I originally was going to go with 17/7s & 17/8s but have decided to to keep more with the era look by going with 15/7s & 15/8s (can't get myself to go with the 14s that came on it). I want the deepest rims and tallest/widest tire that will fit and not rub. I need to know what the minimum backspace that will work. I have 265/50r15s on the back and 225/60r14s on the front now. No idea what the backspace is on these very old rims. I would like to stay with 60s. Any help would be appreciated.

welcome

I suggest going to a wheel and tire shop and talking to them....and I'm talking about a shop that deals strictly with rims. They could take some measurement and make sure you get a "correct" fitting rim.

Good luck!

First have you replaced the springs lately? If not, and you do later, then you may have some issues.
275s and maybe even 295s can fit in the rear as long as they are centered in the wells correctly and have enough vertical height.
Are you willing to roll the fenders?

Thanks everyone. The wheel shops we have been to don't seem to know more than I do. When I have to go into a detailed explanation of the basics I figure I am educating them (frustrating) and move on. Will do some more research. The wheels will be a costly buy that I will have to live with for a long time...they have to be right.
