Tremec T5?
What is a Tremec T5? Met a guy that has one with shifter and bellhousing for $800. It seems to be in very good shape but he already tried to convince me that it is a TKO, so I am paranoid of it already. Will they work dimension wise instead of a world class T5 or T5Z? Is this what cam in late models from late 90's to early 2000 models?
Tremec TKO models are the 500 and 600. If it is either, that is a great deal. The 500 is supposed to handle 500 ft. lbs. of torque and you guessed it, the TKO 600 handles 600 ft. lbs. of torque.
Pretty easy to tell the difference between a T5 and a TKO, just look for the 3 bolt on covers, including the one the shifter cover. The T5 only has the single cover that bolts the shifter on.

Hillbilly, the T-5 5-speed is a transmission that Borg-Warner released around 1981, and has been in everything from Chevettes, to S-10 pickups, to Mustangs (the application for which it is best known). They ran in Mustangs from around '84 until 2010 in various configurations, with the most popular and relevent being the '85-93 "World Class" types as they are cheap, plentiful, reasonably strong when in good working order. Tremec bought out Borg-Warner's manual trans operations around 1997 and continues to produce a variant of the trans for OEM's today in overseas markets under the "TR-2450" nameplate.
What's most important for you to know is that not all T-5's are created equal--even in Mustangs. For example, the "T5Z" or "Super-Duty" units you see in the FRPP catalog or Summit, feature the same layout as the popular Fox-body box, but offer a different gearing (2.95 vs 3.35) which effectively raises the torque capacity of the aftermarket version over the old Fox box. By the way the T5Z or Super Duty units are the EXACT SAME units as the regular aftermarket T-5 you can see on Tremec's website. Tremec produces all of them and they are only available new in one configuration. It gets confusing because Tremec advertises a 300 lb-ft. torque rating, while FRPP says 330, but they are in fact the same. In any case, if not ragged on too hard, a healthy T-5 can usually withstand a fair amount more torque than they are rated for.
Your best bet to make sure you get the trans you're looking for (it's not a good deal if it doesn't meet your needs) is to talk to someone that really knows the units. In fact, if the aluminum ID tag is still on the trans you can even call Tremec and they should be able to tell you what it is for sure. If you care to tell me more about what your trying to accomplish, I'll be happy to advise you further.
Oh and P.S.--forget the adjustable shifter stops! You're more likely to damage the trans from misadjusting them than you are from not having them. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

Purchased. Clutch pedal and modern driveling cable went in today. Should have everything else torn apart tomorrow and start install on Wednesday.
Iskwezm, I was referring to whether or not you purchase a shifter for a regular T5, not where the stops are located. Probably just going to rock the basic shifter, I do not plan on being too hard on the car. These cars are not like the old fox bodies. I think that Ford intended for those things to be tortured, damn, now I miss mine. I do appreciate the input though.
