Default Another Rack and Pinion thread

Hey guys,

Just picked up a flaming river rack and pinion cradle from a guy for a sweet deal, I have heard horror stories from others about them but it was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. It came with the pump and my car 1970 has a/c. Will I run into any issues with this setup? I am not against taking off the a/c but that is a whole other project and I have no idea how to get started on that. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Do you know if it is compatible with your year ride? If so, I'd contact Flaming River for any advice and any additional parts you might need. I ran a manual F/R rack in my 65 and thought it was fine. Also know, you may have to anticipate any bump steer issues.
Good Luck with your project.

I've been running my Flaming River manual rack & steering column setup for about 6k miles now with no problems. Beats the hell out of the old slop-box

If your car is completely stock, FR may be able to help you. If not, be prepared for some fab work.

Thanks for the replies. My car is completely stock with the exception of the csrp disc brake upgrade. As far as compatability for the rack it came off of a 69 and my car is a 70 so I am not too worried about that. I will contact flaming river and see what they can do.

Thought I would share an update since I started this thread. Hope you enjoy this pic as much as I do.

I did have a question though about tie rods. The FR directions are more suggestions than installation guidance so for those who have R&P how are your tie rods adjusted? Currently I just have them threaded in a ways and my toe is unacceptable. Any suggested specs for an alignment? Or should I wait to have one done after I do the UCA drop? How does this affect my R&P?

Advice and shenanigans are always appreciated.

Any change to the suspension will affect the toe. If you're running out of adjustment then it will likely have to be modified. Cut off unneeded shaft so you get adjustment room etc.

Also, the engine has to be in the car before you get an alignment. You need the vehicle at normal ride height before adjusting anything alignment wise.
