Default which rack and pinion

Have a 66 v8 with ling tube headers.
I am going to get a rack and pinion set up. I also have new springs, control arms, 13in cobra discs, and my car sits just how I like.

I am wondering if I should get a set up similar to the tci unit with coil overs and the a-arms and the column as a unit, or if I should just go with the rack systen only. There is about a $1k diff. Which to me isnt an issue.

I suppose my question would be, if I go with a complete coil over unit which also frees up the shock towers, will there be a huge difference in handling and performance over just adding a power rack to what I have now?

Huge can of worms, may as well start an oil thread on a motorcycle forum. Removing shock towers without adding some serious structure WILL alter the chassis stiffness since the suspensions compression loads will be going into the floor/fire wall where the frame connects instead of also being spread into the cowl area etc...

I almost went that route but the geometry required to keep a unibody stiff goes away when the load is localized to the smaller area the frame connects with, you cant triangulate it without a roll cage that reaches past the front suspension, a full frame under the car, or both.

Now, someone will be along to tel me I'm wrong because they have a car that drives perfectly and they have no issues, just go to a road course and see how many guys without shock towers have no added frame/cage set-up.

I did look at the strut style set-up that kept the towers, but the vender in question had no parts in the USA over a 6 month window so I gave up on that idea.

I went with the cheap Unisteer manual rack since I have a 289 car and really dont need or want power steering. For the $775 shipped ya cant go wrong.

Just my .02
