Default exhaust questions

Ok, im thinking about getting a set of headers, and having a exhuast shop install an exhaust system with h pipe. I already have some 40 series flows for it, and i was wondering Should i bolt up the headers and drive the car to the shop, or have them do it all.

see how much they want to put the headers on...if it's cheap, have them do it because if it leaks then they have to redo it instead of you...

although if money is tight do it yourself

the parts will be cheaper if you buy from a parts wherehouse instead of a shop...
so if you want to put them on...don't buy from a shop...i learned the hard way [sm=headbang.gif]

Often times the header/exhaust manifold bolts get rusted in and sometimes break off. Then, you really have a problem with using an ease-out to get the old bolt out, then possibly having to re-tap to make new threads. If you don't have those skills, then you best take the whole car to a muffler shop and have them do it.

Oh believe me. I KNOW. Our 67 ford truck with 352 did just that. We had to take the heads off, drill out most of the bolts, and had to retap them. NOT fun.

Then there you have it Charles. Have someone do it for you, or do it yourself?
