Default 1968 power steering components

Hi all, I found an ad on Craigslist, guy is getting rid of (scrap) a 68 coupe. And selling parts. The power steering is original and complete. How much should I offer, being that I will have to remove it all myself. I had asked what he was looking to get (since he is going to scrap the car) and he just asked what I wanted to give. The parts are pretty expensive on eBay, but they are already out of the car. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I would look up parts on Chockostang and see what the core fees are - since there is a good change most pieces will need rebuilt. For example on their website the control valve rebuilt is $125 or $250 w/o core. For hard parts that don't require rebuilds (ie., center link) just look up in catalog. Then just knock of what you think off that (50%). Hoses and ties rods just assume you will need to replace them. If you are swapping from 6cyl to 8cyl include spindles. Pulling parts with air or electric ratchet is a few hour job if not that familiar with system.

Thanks Palerider, I also ran into an old friend who has had countless mustangs and falcons. He pretty much told me he has never really felt the need for power steering on a mustang. He also was pointing out that everything would probably need rebuilt.

Personally, I would not add power steering to a non-power steering car.
I added a roller idler arm to my '65 with manual steering, and you could also add roller spring perches to help with steering.
Look here -

especially if you have a weekend driver, power steering is something extra to maintain.

Manual steering is fine, and works well....but if you start getting into handling and equip larger tires, then parking lots turn into a total pia and it makes the car more difficult to steer on a track.
