Default 351C 2bbl carb. Interchange

I need a new carb for my 73 cougar Xr7 with a 2bbl automatic trans, auto choke. I found a reman guy who has one listed for a 72, but his ad says it is my responsibility to verify that it is correct. Are they interchangeable?

Thanks
Gary

Do you absolutely want a 2bbl? Unless you're trying to stay correct, its a pretty small carb for that big of an engine.

Get the model numbers of the carbs and post them.

According to autozone the 72 and 73 carbs have different part numbers, they look the same but it looks like the 73 has an extra metered vacuum port . They possibly may have different throttle linkages. I would pull yours and take it to compare to the one the guy has. Both carbs are 2100d series and likely the same cfm.

If you ever want to wake that engine up you can get a 4bbl intake from the junk yard for about 50 bucks and drop on a nice edlebrock or holly 4bbl.

Rebuild your original, either do it yourself or send it to a shop to get it done. Sounds like you're looking for originality.

The 73 carb is different due to new government emission standards

I would recommend this if you don't want to rebuild your old carb -
http://www.nationalcarburetors.com/l...partnum=nd2454

Here is a link to their Ford carbs page -

Hard to beat for the $$$ - and good service
