Default 66 Console question

I have a question concerning my 66 convertible and the center console. Mine just dosent look right, it has about a 1/2 inch gap between the console and the shifter plate all around the center plate. I have pulled the console and the shifter plate assembly looks correct based on what I see in parts supply catalogs for a console equipped car. I have searched the forum but nothing matches my issues. I have a pic but it doesnt really show the issue. Any help would be appreciated, pics or tips.

Thanks,
Dan

I have the same console in my '66.
Where exactly is it ½" off. It looks like it's supposed to in your pic.

The 1/2 inch is at the rear of the shift plate, up towards the front it's more like 1/4 inch gap! I'll try posting a better pic this weekend!

I'm thinking your talking about the console sitting higher than the shift plate? If that's the issue, I had a similar situation and I was able to shim the plate up to the console with nuts and washers.
