Default Spark Plug Firing Order

I am new to the site and hope to get some help. I own a 67 mustang 289 v8 and have had it since about March. Recently I did some work on the car but when I replaced the spark plugs I put them in the 15426378 order but the car will not start. It started just fine prior to taking the spark plugs out. I marked them but some of the markings got ripped off when my kids were "helping" me. I have also tried the 13726548 order as well. I am at a loss and need some help as to any other order they may go.

Default Spark Plug Firing Order

No work with the distributor. I just replaced the valve cover gaskets, replaced the fuel filter, changed the spark plugs and the oil filter.

Just to be on the save side, did you put the order counterclock wise?

if you are not 100% certain which plug wire is number 1. i would do the following.

remove number 1 plug.

stick expendable finger lightly in hole.

turn engine over until you feel strong outward pressure.

stop.

rotate eng by hand until your timing mark says 0.

remove distributor cap and see which way the rotor is pointing. this will be number 1 plug.

This is good advise.

Assuming your firing order is now (or always was) correct, how long did you let the engine turn over? I noticed you mentioned you replaced the fuel filter - and it's possible you have not allowed enough time for the fuel pump to replace the fuel that was lost when you disconnected the fuel line. I suppose you could check for fuel at your accelerator pump too.

Good luck.

Thank you for your replies. Yes I ran the spark plugs counter clockwise and was wondering if there was any way they may run clockwise, is this possible? I know the majority for Ford distributors run counter clockwise. Further, I don't think it's anything with the fuel filter as the car ran after replacing it. Even after replacing the spark plugs the car started fine but ran really rough. That's when I noticed that the plugs weren't in the 15426378 order and changed it up. Since than I can't get the car running again.
