Assuming automatic. Check out TCI C4 - summit has them at good price. Have behind my 347 no problems.

Doesn't look like 425hp to me but it does look like a nice solid ride!

Assuming 5 speed get in contact with Bruce from ModenDriveline http://www.moderndriveline.com/index.html

Good Luck!

Manual or automatic? Is cost important, or availability/import duties an issue?

The C4 is a pretty tough little dude especially if its built up a bit.

Do you not think the previous owner made any upgrades to the c4 thats in there now? Is it an all stock original?

Is the current transmission doing anything that seems like an indication of trouble?

A C4 can only be built up to handle roughly 700 horsepower. Anything over that and you will need to look at a C6. As for standard trannys, and assuming that gas mileage is not so much of an issue, look at a toploader 4-speed. T-5's can handle only so much abuse before they become a headache. You will find tons of tranny suggestions, but the Ford based trannys are all I have had experience with.
Best,
Al

i used yo have 302 engine, then i requested to custom build a 347 engine 425 hP from engine factory close to 17k $, and shipped to me, installed it, had lots of temp (over heating problems) fixed that, turned out something was not right with the engine and fixed, temp is ok now, but the Transmission is acting funny and i been told that i need new Transmission, some say here i need 3 speed Transmission and some say better 4speed Transmission, i tried and changed 2 used Transmissions but they were not good, so i want to buy a new one that goes well with this type of engine.

Which rear gear do you have and how fast do you want to go?
You may or may not need an overdrive/4 speed trans.
