Default original engine ??

just pulled the engine out of my '67 coupe today. my vin says it is a 289 C code. i am trying to figure out if it is the original engine. the casting number is C6AE-6015. from what i have read, this is a generic block. how can i tell if it is original to the car? i have owned the car since 1986 but do not know what has been done before i got it.
thanks.

You can look up casting numbers here.

IIRC, Ford didn't start VIN-stamping blocks until '68. My '67 block definitely doesn't have a VIN stamp. But I believe your casting # is correct for a '67, so I'd think it would be original.

thanks.

The block is likely original to your car. As far as Vin stamping engine blocks, Ford only did that on cars sold into fleet service when requested by the purchaser, Shelbys, and some HiPo's. The Boss 302 cars had vin matched engines. Vin stamping engine components is more a GM thing.
Best,
Al

You need to look at the date code, right above the casting code. Sample: 4G28 The '4' is the year 1964, 'G' is the month of July and the '28' is the day of the month.

If these numbers on your block translates out to be about 2 weeks before the scheduled build date of your car (on your door tag, if original), then most likely its the original block.

The same date code sequence is cast in the heads, too.

ok, i think the engine is original. block is 7c26, heads 7f27, and intake 7f15. door plate is 10u. these seem to be close enough in date to go together.
thanks everyone.
btw, this car has all the original date coded metal too.

it is located on the passenger side of the block, next to the oil pan, on a pad rearward. if the engine is in your car, you will have to lay on the ground to see it. approximately above the starter. i have a pic but can't figure out how to post it.
