Default new ignition

As some of you may have read, I am in the market for a new electronic igniton. You can go back and read my post about the MSD 6AL if you have not. I want to keep the 6AL for performance reasons. I have read a lot about pertronix and am leaning toward that kit. I also was thinking about purchasing a complete pertronix HEI dist off e-bay. Then I thought maybe I should buy a darn MSD dist to keep the ignition all one brand. Anybody have any problems with the above mentioned? What do you love about them? How about maint? I still trying to decide. My money tree is still blooming(yeah right). If you like modding cars you need to keep that sucker well watered!

You already have the MSD box. Why not just get the dizzy that is compatible with it?

With my basic knowledge of electronics, I would recomend sticking with just one brand. That way, you know the system is compatible and tech support will be better if there is a problem. Also, the MSD distributor I recently put in my 289 has been very solid and was easy install and tune.

You might want to consider a Duraspark distributor. They are compatible with MSD in fact they make a harness to connect directly to the stock connectors. They are bullet proof and can be had for about $65.00 or so rebuilt. Alot of the FE guys go that route. Just a suggestion.

Hey guys,

I purchased a pertronix and tried that with the MSD 6AL box and still no spark. It only took about 10 minutes to install the pertronix. I then bypassed the MSD and she fired right up

I went into the house and called Schucks to see if they would warranty the box. I figured that they wouldn't since it was an electrical item. Also I figured they would tell me to send it to MSD direct. I was shocked when the manager said she would exchange it. I guess she figured I spend a lot of money in there. They even had to bring one in from Anchorage. I went and picked it up today with no hassles. I like that kind of customer service!

Wish me luck. I will try to install this one tomorrow unless you can talk me out of it(except for Soaring[8D]) I guess if I were like Soaring I'd have less headaches. If it aint broke, don't fix it. But then again, I never was a good listener

Mike, believe it or not, I have been through Wasilla, Alaska. There aren't many folks who even know where that little berg is. I was stationed at Ft. Richardson back in the 60's.

Wow, back in the 60's there wasn't much in Wasilla. For that matter, in Anchorage. I do a lot of work on Elmendorf and Richardson as well as Wainwright. I moved here in 90 and Wasilla was still small. You should see it now[:@] A drive that probably took you 2 -3 hrs to get to Wasilla from post now takes 40 minutes.
