Default dashpot for my 289.. 600 holley

Hi all,

So i previously posted about my ongoing stumbling issues on deceleration. I brought the car to a carb place and they initially said it was just gummed up secondaries that were leaking fuel... I then started the car, let it warm up a bit and showed him how it stumbled after revving engine... He said that I need to have a dashpot installed... do any of you think this makes sense... I had the car rebuilt a long time ago and it seemed to work fine without a dashpot for many years...

any ideas...

thanks

christian

I have heard that before. I am under the assumption that this is false.

If it dies on DE-acceleration it is because of a poor carb tune. I was told the same thing...I was like BS! The solution in my case was simply:

1) make the idle circuit richer if it has 4 idle mix screws turn each one out just under 1/4 turn...if 2 idle mix screws back them out maybe just over a 1/4 turn each.

2) Add larger main jets go up 2 jet sizes on the primary circuit if its a 67 go to 69 jets

3) check for vac leaks around the carb base, any carb accessory like vac brake booster, and check the intake for leaks where is meets the cylinder heads on both sides.

This should fix the issue.

Yeah, I'm with Gun Jam. The dashpot was installed on a/t cars to keep the rpm's from dropping too quickly when you let off the gas.

Does it stumble when engine braking?
