I want to pull my engine.
I know just about everything i need to do to pull the engine. Is un hooking the tranny just like 6 bolts? and what part of the engine do i hook the lift to? I want to pull it so i can repaint the engine bay and do some work on the engine.
If you have an automatic then you have the torque converter bolts to remove as well. They can be accessed by removing the inspection plate that is bolted to the block plate at the bottom of the bell housing. If you have a standard transmission, it is easier to set a transmission jack under the transmission, disconect the bell housing, drive shaft and linkage then roll it straight back. Make sure your engine hoist is hooked up and suporting the weight at the rear of the engine.
Don't forget to support the front of the automatic transmission/bellhousing on blocks, or a mechanically operated transmission jack.
As for lifting out, I prefer using a carburetor base lifting plate with studs in the manifold, or if that is not available, bolting plates to the oposite corners of the intake manifold that have large holes for inserting hooks, and using a jack screw balance bar.
Good luck, and be careful!

I hooked mine up to the bolt holes in the end of the heads. Be careful and make sure your hoist is in good shape

Tyler,
I found that the use of an engine leveler helps as well. It has 4 chains attached to a bar that attaches to hoist. THe bar has a threaded rod that allows you to tilt the engine.
