C4 2-3 shift flare
The stock C4 tranny in my 74 bronco has a bad shift flare. The kickdown foot had fallen off the lever so I dropped the pan and welded it on. Fluid looked great and all. I remember a while ago adjusting the front band and that didnt help at all. Should I tighten it a little more? Could it be the servo or could I change the modulator pin size to help? It also shifts from first to second extremely fast so fast I thought I was starting in second everytime. How do I get it to rev higher before it shifts? The kickdown cable isnt hooked up yet BTW.
.
ok, a flare is when the trans disengages temporarily which allows the engine rpm to increase until the ttans engages again . . these trannies have a tiny bit of flare when new.
the band should be adjusted until the bolt is snug then back it our 1 1/4 turn.
first and second are operating as designed, you can not change it.
do not put long pins in the modulator or adjust it more than 2 1/2 turns.
your trans is likely fried.
