new 17" wheels ride height question.
#11
I am not worried that the spring wont contact the mount and be secure...Im worried I am going to burn up all of my shock travel and bottom the shock shaft out over regular road bumps.
when this pic was taken the vehicle was about .75" high from what I'm looking at as far as the ride height I want. So lowering the .75 would only use about 1/3 of an inch of shock shaft if I estimated correct...does this look about normal?

It looks like you have artificially compressed your suspension a 'little' for the photo? But over all it doesn't look to different from normal to me....are your caps 3 inches tall or could you possibly have shorter caps from a later year car?
There was a discussion about this on the VMF several years ago. Instead of trying to synthesis some of the knowledge shared there from some reliable sources (like a GW engineer) I'll just link it and 'be that guy' on one forum pointing to another forum

Cool
Ill play around with this and see if I can get way with the GW UCAs....Good news is its easy to switch back if its no good....but I think it will work suspension wise and I think they will clear my wheels and tires...
I'll let you know how it works out.

They are American Racing Classic torque thrust II.
17x8 with with 4.75 OR 4.81 backspace....I never measured some sources say 4.75 others say 4.81BS.
Front tires at Pilot super sport 235/45/r17 REAR is 245/45/17. Rear has lots of room.
The front barely clears the upper ball joint (1/8") but there is no issues and they work really great.
I got the ride height dialed in using the Global West upper A arms and just a 1/4" cut off the springs.
Ill post some pics tomorrow.

Those springs are so stiff I dont think it matter much...
Thanks for your help!
Ride quality is good but I may attempt to buy back some of my suspension travel with the use of Global West Drop spindles that are not yet available for the mustang...They will lower the front 1" without using up any suspension travel then I can add a taller spring and get back to that height and end up with an extra inch. (at least thats what I understand)
I keep pushing it a little bit at a time and so far it doesn't complain about any of the turns I push it through. tracks great. I test it on the 180 degree freeway on ramps that are posted at 25...I used to get fair amount of squeal at about 40 and by 43 it was wanting to push out of the turn...that was about it. Ive got it to right about 48 with the PSS and there is no indication of any loss of traction...it sticks right in the turn, responds well to steering input and is quiet.
Wet performance is amazing as well stopping power on wet roads is pretty trick.

im running the same size tires with the same rear spring, my tires rub just a little over big bumps with my kids in the back. when im alone there is no problem.
i think my car handles great as long as a stay off the pedal. if i get just a little too heavy on the pedal with the wheel even slightly turned, i end up facing the other direction.
